Introducing DCU’s innovative new Master’s in Arts Education Practice

Classes begin for first students in brand new part-time programme

DCU’s Institute of Education has this week commenced its innovative new postgraduate programme which aims to enhance arts-based education through       transdisciplinary approaches to arts practices.

The approach to arts education throughout the programme responds to the contemporary education landscape while integrating professional arts practices and creative pedagogical practices.

The part-time MEd in Arts Education Practice course takes place over two years, during which students engage in practical learning, interdisciplinary focus and real world impact through participation with arts organisations including The Ark, as well as galleries, schools and communities.

Throughout the two years, expert mentorship will be offered from leading educators, artists and invited changemakers in arts education who share a passion for the arts, creativity and learning.

Dr Una McCabe, Head of the School of Arts Education and Movement said, ‘I am delighted to welcome the first cohort of students to this unique master’s programme at the Institute of Education.

‘The mix of educators and artists enrolled and involved in the arts practices on the programme offers an exciting, integrated perspective on arts education and reflects the changes in the current arts education landscape.’

Students on the programme will work as a community of practice, exploring arts education and creative pedagogies in a broad context. Modules will include drama education, embodiment and multimodality; music making and the arts, arts-based education research and more.
