In Pictures: DCU Institute of Education students take part in Hong Kong Summer School programme
This summer, four students from DCU’s Institute of Education were awarded places to participate in an international study opportunity at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). Following their return to Ireland and as a new term begins for the students on St Patrick’s Campus in Drumcondra, we look back at their time on the summer school programme.

The summer school offered students a valuable opportunity to step outside their familiar educational environment and consider how different approaches to teaching and learning might inform their future practice.

The experience provided an opportunity to engage with Hong Kong’s distinctive cultural and historical context, exploring the city and learn about its history, providing an important dimension to the academic experience, while meeting students from different countries and backgrounds.
Beyond the classroom, the summer school created opportunities to meet local students and participants from different countries and cultures. For all the participants, the opportunity extended well beyond academic study. It encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones, experience a different educational and cultural environment and develop a broader understanding of education and the wider world.

For DCU’s Institute of Education, international opportunities such as this are an important part of broadening students’ educational experiences and developing graduates who are confident, culturally aware and prepared to engage with an increasingly global education landscape.
