Chief Justice Frank Clarke gives keynote speech at DCU Law Research Center

On 10 April 2019, the Rt. Hon. Frank Clarke, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ireland, gave a keynote address at DCU, concluding the weekly seminar series of the Law Research Center for the spring semester 2019. Explaining that "what happens in the courts is of considerable importance" the Chief Justice over-viewed the domestic and international challenges facing the Irish judiciary and discussed ongoing efforts to address them. In particular, the Chief Justice underlined how Brexit represents a challenge for the Irish common law, but how this also could be an opportunity as Ireland may become a center for international dispute resolutions post-Brexit. For that to happen, the Chief Justice indicated that "we need good and efficient courts" and emphasized the importance of increasing the knowledge of European law as a key part of the training for future lawyers, praising the leading work being done at DCU Law on both European law research and teaching.
