DCU Library was delighted to celebrate the launch of The Policeman’s Helmet Soup Journal (PHS Journal), a new undergraduate open access journal developed in collaboration with the School of English.

The journal provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to publish their work and gain valuable experience of writing for publication and the scholarly communications process. Published as an open access journal, the students’ work is shared and can be read widely beyond the university community.

The launch event brought together students, academic staff, and library colleagues to celebrate the publication of the first issue and the collaborative work involved in bringing the journal to life.

The PHS Journal is the second undergraduate open access journal following on from the successful collaboration with the School of Communications on the Communications Undergraduate Journal (CUJ). These initiatives form part of the Library’s ongoing commitment to supporting student research and skills development and new opportunities for students to engage directly with academic communication and publishing practices.

DCU Library would like to congratulate all of the student contributors and thank everyone involved in bringing the journal to publication, including colleagues in the School of English and our library colleagues Geraldine McNamara and Alex Kouker who worked on the journal’s development and production.
