Dissertation Appointment Service



Are you putting the final touches to your dissertation?

DCU Library is delighted to announce we are now operating an appointment service for print taught masters dissertations for consultation purposes only.

Print dissertations submitted to the Library as part of a taught masters degree are now available for consultation purposes.

Not included:
PhD and research theses will not be included in this service, as access to these materials will continue online through DORAS.
Also not included are the selection of 2020 dissertations from taught postgraduate courses which are available online as Ebooks through the Library Catalogue.

You may request up to three dissertations per visit. 

Only dissertations submitted as part of the appointment request form may be consulted. There will be no browsing of shelves allowed.

To search for dissertations from the Library Catalogue :

  • Click on Advanced Search
  • Enter your search term in the ‘all of these words’ search box
  • Select ‘Theses’ from  the collections drop-down box (this will limit your search to theses and dissertations).
  • Click Search
  • Refine your search by Year Published 
  • Record details of the dissertation for the appointment request form

To search for dissertations from a particular taught masters programme:

  • Type the full course name (e.g. MSc in Human Resource Management) in the ‘all of these words’ search box
  • Select theses from the collections drop-down box.
  • Refine your search by Year Published 
  • Record details of the dissertation for the appointment request form


The Dissertation Appointment Service is only available to currently registered DCU staff and postgraduate students.

There is no limit as to how many times a reader may request an appointment. However appointments are dependent on availability of both space and requested materials.


  1. Email library@dcu.ie stating you are interested in consulting taught masters dissertations.
  2. A member of library staff will then reply to your email with a link to the appointment request form and supply information about the service.
  3. Read the form in full and complete all relevant fields. 
  4. Click Submit at the bottom of the form.
  5. When your request has been processed, we will send you an email to your DCU email account confirming the location, date and time of your appointment.
  6. Please report to the Reception Desk upon entry to the library building to check in. 

Appointments will be assigned by a member of staff  on a first come first served basis so please note your preferred day may be unavailable. We can only offer limited appointments at this time.
Same day or next day appointments may not be feasible.

Please note: Phone or email appointments cannot be accepted at this time


The Dissertation Appointment Service is available Monday to Friday from 9:30am - 12:30pm. Each appointment is a three hour consultation for requested dissertations only. 

O’Reilly Library: Group Study Room 1 (ground floor)

Cregan Library: Group Study Room G315 (2nd floor)


Please note the location of requested materials will determine which library your appointment will be held, e.g. if a dissertation is held in O’Reilly Library, so too will the appointment be held in O’Reilly Library. There will be no transit of materials between sites. 

If you request materials from both libraries, two appointments will be arranged, one for each library.


When your appointment has been arranged, we will send you an email to your DCU email account confirming the location, date and time of your appointment.

  • Make sure you have all of the materials you need before attending.
  • Library Collections are closed and are only accessible to library staff (Access to book stacks will not be permitted) - we have a Click & Collect Service in place if you need access to library books in advance.

Remember to bring:

  • DCU ID card. 
  • Confirmation of appointment (print or electronic format acceptable).
  • Face covering.
  • Water bottle (water fountains are not available inside the library buildings).
  • Your own supply of paper and stationery.
  • Also note printing/copying facilities are not available.

Entry is permitted ONLY on presentation of your DCU ID card and confirmation of appointment..


We understand that sometimes things happen at the last minute. If you are unable to attend your appointment please email library@dcu.ie as soon as it is feasible to do so. 

If you are unwell on the day of your appointment, please do not attend and cancel your appointment. 

Appointments are limited, please don’t request an appointment if you do not intend to use it.

Repeated “No Shows” may lead to a withdrawal of the service.


Non Compliance of Safety Rules will result in immediate removal from the building and may lead to a ban on using the service.

  • You must have received an email of confirmation of your appointment date and time before visiting the Library or entry will not be permitted.
  • Once in the building you must follow the signage in order to facilitate safe movement around the building.
  • Access at this time is for silent consultation only.
  • Face covering must be worn indoors in all University buildings at all times.
  • Please use the sanitising stations on entry and located throughout the building.
  • Follow sneeze and coughing etiquette at all times
  • In order to facilitate cleaning you must leave promptly at the end of your allocated time slot. 
  • The book stacks are off limits and browsing is not permitted. Access to books should be arranged in advance via Click+Collect only.
  • All Service Desks are closed. Library Support is available Online.
  • The use of Catalogues, PCs, Printers or Copiers is not permitted.
  • You are not permitted to move around the library building other than to enter / exit or use bathroom facilities. 
  • Drinks must be carried in a safety cup or bottle.
  • Eating in the library is not permitted. 
  • Laptop loans are not available.
  • Power sockets are available in the Group Study Room
  • You must take all personal belongings with you when you leave. Items left behind will be discarded.
