Scan & Send

We are delighted to announce our New Scan & Send  service whereby you can request a digital copy of a book chapter or a journal article from DCU library's print collection. 

This service is FREE and available to all registered DCU students and staff.

Choose which request you require & complete online form:

Request a scan of one journal article or a single book chapter from DCU Library’s print collection only.
Where possible, Library staff will scan the material and send it to you by email as a PDF.
You may request up to 5 items at a time.

Not included:
Dissertations, newspapers, print books larger than A4 in size and Special Collections & Archives material are not included in this service

Please Note:

  • Only material with a status of available on the catalogue will be eligible for the Scan & Send service
  • Material available online in e-format will not be supplied
  • Overdue books and large fines on library accounts may affect your ability to place a request

Scan & Send will not supply requests available in e-format. Many articles and a large number of books are already available electronically through our subscriptions.

Please check in advance that there is no Ebook version of your request available, before placing a request online.

  1. Submit your request for scanning on the Book Chapter Online Request Form 
  2. Complete all required fields (personal details, chapter details, etc.) and provide any additional information in the Additional Notes field which will help staff fill your request 
  3. If information for a required field is unknown please enter N/A
  4. Read the Copyright Regulations carefully and agree to the copyright declaration.
  5. Click Submit at the bottom of the request form.

Please check in advance that there is no Ejournal version of your request available, before placing a request online.

  2. Complete all required fields (personal details, article details, etc.) and provide any additional information in the Additional Notes field which will help staff fill your request 
  3. If information for a required field is unknown please enter N/A
  4. Read the Copyright Regulations carefully and agree to the copyright declaration.
  5. Click Submit at the bottom of the request form.

You may submit up to 5 requests per day.
Each request will be processed separately.

All requests will be delivered as a pdf to your DCU email account.
You may receive several emails if you request a number of items.

We aim to supply requests within 48 hours.

Please note delays may occur due to quarantine measures on recently returned items or if a title is already out on loan. For items on loan please check the due date on the catalogue and submit another request when available.

All scans supplied will be compliant with Irish copyright legislation. As such, we can supply 10% or one chapter of a book (whichever is greater) or one article from a journal issue.

By submitting a request, you agree to the following terms and conditions in the copyright declaration below:

  • That the material is required for the purpose of non-commercial research or private study.
  • That you have not previously been supplied with a copy of the same material by DCU Library or any other library.
  • That only a single paper copy will be retained and the electronic copy will be destroyed if the item is printed.
  • That you will not make or distribute any further copies, either in paper or electronic format,  without the permission of the copyright owner.
  • That if the declaration is false in a material particular, the copy supplied will be an infringing copy and the requester will be liable for the infringement as if they made it themselves.

Enter N/A (non-applicable) into the required field. 

Provide any additional information in the Additional Notes field which will help staff fill your request.
