Evaluation of Management Education in the Hospitality and Tourism Sector

This research, which is funded by Fáilte Ireland, explores the match between the needs for, and provision of, management education and development in the Irish tourism and hospitality sector. Within this broad aim, there are the following objectives:

  • To evaluate the extent to which current provision of management education and development opportunities in the Irish hospitality sector meets managers’ needs;
  • To compare levels of competencies among managers who have undertaken management education programmes of both a generalist and specialist nature, as well as those who have no formal management qualifications;
  • To explore the drivers and barriers to education and development opportunities, as well as differences depending on establishment size and location;
  • To evaluate the impact of management education on performance outcomes within the sector.

The research team includes: Dr. Edel Conway, Prof. Kathy Monks, Ms. Ciara Nolan and Ms. Tara Farrell. For further information contact: Edel Conway (edel.conway@dcu.ie).
