Oscar nomination for DCU Graduate

Congratulations to DCU graduate, Eimear O'Kane who has been nominated for an Oscar in the Short Film (Live Action) Category for her short film entitled "Pentecost". Eimear completed the MA in Film and Television in the School of Communications in 2007.

Speaking on her time at DCU, Eimear said she thoroughly enjoyed her experience at DCU. "It was wonderful to have so much one-on-one attention from the lecturers there and their continued support since I've graduated has been wonderful".

Since founding EMU productions in 2007, Eimear O'Kane has produced two feature films (Satellites & Meteorites & The Looking Glass), two series of a television mockumentary (Fran Series 1 & 2) and three short films (Pentecost, Corduroy & Up for Air). Each of these productions have achieved great success both in Ireland and internationally and many have screened at a number of major festivals around the globe. Pentecost picked up the award for ‘Best Irish Short Film’ at the premiere of the film at the Corona Cork Film Festival in November 2010 and was nominated for an IFTA (Irish Film and Television Awards) in February 2011. It recently won ‘Best Short Film’ at the Chicago Irish Film Festival and has been officially selected to screen at the Tribeca Film Festival 2011 and the IndieLisboa International Film Festival 2011.

The Oscars will be presented by Billy Crystal in the Kodak theatre on Sunday 26 February 2012.
