Taoiseach praises Ireland's Talented Youth at DCU

The Taoiseach, Mr Enda Kenny TD has visited the Centre for Talented Youth Ireland (CTYI) at Dublin City University this afternoon, meeting some of the country's brightest young people.

During his visit, the Taoiseach met with students from age 6 to 16 who feature in the top 5% of the population academically, learning about the wide range of university-style courses on offer to them at DCU - forensic science, computer programming, criminology, Horrid Histories and The Magic of Harry Potter amongst many others.

The Taoiseach praised the work of CTYI in nurturing the talent and maximising the potential of Ireland's young people,

"It is wonderful that children and teenagers who are exceptionally able in one or more areas, can come here to CTYI to explore, to create, to stretch themselves and to simply be with each other. As Ireland moves to a high-skills, high-tech economic model, these exceptional young people are our future entrepreneurs, our scientists, our doctors, our inventors, our engineers, our gamers, our musicians, our environmentalists, our artists, our philosophers, our politicians, our leaders of the future."

The Taoiseach dropped in on primary level groups taking part in a Reptile Village presentation, and chemistry laboratory experiments in the Biomedical Diagnostic Institute.
