DCU Business School wins Irish Aviation Industry Award

Dublin City University Business School won the Overall Aviation Academic Education Award for the BSc in Aviation Management (with Pilot Studies) Degree Programme, at the inaugural Aviation Industry Awards. The awards, held on Tuesday 10th June 2014, brought together key figures from across Ireland’s aviation industry to recognise their innovation and contribution to the sector. Eighteen winners were chosen from more than 120 entries submitted by over 70 leading companies.

This exciting course in DCU Business School addresses gaps in the education of those entering the aviation industry: for those who wish to become commercial pilots, it offers a route to a professional qualification as a commercial pilot combined with a strong background in business education; for those who see themselves playing other roles in the industry, it provides the necessary expertise to maximise your potential in this ever-changing industry.

Programme Director, Dr. PJ Byrne (pictured), who accepted the award on the night said “This is a remarkable achievement which highlights DCU's rise to prominence in the aviation sector in Ireland. What is significant about this achievement is that in this the inaugural year for the event, DCU came top of the educational category against contenders who boast many decades of aviationeducation. This is reflective of the time, effort and innovation that has gone into this programme at DCU Business School over the past four years”.

Mr Eamonn Brennan, Chief Executive of the IAA commented: “The Aviation Industry Awards recognise the sheer scale of this industry in Ireland. 26,000 people are directly employed in this country by an industry that’s worth €4 billion to our economy. One in three of all aircraft worldwide are leased out of Ireland. The IAA got on board as sponsor of the Awards because we have some really innovative aviation services and products in Ireland that deserve to be celebrated – from international airlines to people manufacturing aircraft seats, to engine overhauls, and avionics products. These award winners are exceptional people doing exceptional work every day to enhance the Irish aviation sector, which punches well above its weight on the global stage”.
