DCU Graduate launches Cycling Kickstarter Campaign

DCU Business Studies graduate, Sinéad Geraghty, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for her fledgling business, Stowaway, a clever bike storage solution.  The Stowaway stores your bike flat to your ceiling using a simple pulley system, decluttering your room and maximizing unused space.

Sinéad explained,

“Cycling is a way of life, a passion. Whether we compete, commute, or cycle just for fun we rely on our bikes, invest in them and we want to ensure that our bikes are safe and secure. With limited storage options and increased bike thefts, cyclists are being forced to store their bikes within their home, turning their living quarters into an obstacle course.  With a 76% increase in bicycle thefts in the last 5 years and 66% happening at residences, there is need for a clever, safe, bike storage solution. And this is why we created The Stowaway.”

For over a year now, the Stowaway team have been working hard developing and refining the Stowaway.  In order to promote the Stowaway, on the 24th of November the team launched a 30 day Kickstarter campaign to create market awareness and pay for the first production run.

Stowaway was founded by Sinéad Geraghty who holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Dublin City University (DCU), specialising in Finance and a Masters in E-Commerce from DCU, specialising in New Enterprise Development and Digital Marketing.  In 2008 she graduated from the Invest NI Export Sales and Marketing Programme and received a certificate in Export Sales and Marketing from the Institute of Marketing Ireland.  She is a DCU Uaneen award holder, the 2010 Winner of INVENT DCU’s Annual Commercialisation of University Research Award and a 2010 Finalist in the Accenture Leaders of Tomorrow Award.  Sinéad has a proven track record in new business development, sales and marketing, specialising in export markets and has just completed Phase 2 of the New Frontiers entrepreneur development programme that Invent DCU runs jointly with DkIT.
