Inaugural Lecture of Professor Stafford Hood

The School of Education Studies and EQI – the Centre for Evaluation, Quality and Inspection – will host the Inaugural Lecture of Professor Stafford Hood, recently appointed Adjunct Professor at the School on Tuesday 3rd March in room HG22 in the nursing building.

Stafford Hood is one of the leading evaluation theorists of today whose world renowned expertise in culturally responsive modes of evaluation and assessment has been recognised as offering a lens to critique educational provision across rapidly changing social contexts. His Inaugural lecture, entitled ‘The Relevance of Culture in Evaluation and Assessment: A Personal Journey’, will offer an overview of the development of the theory of Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment. Drawing on Professor Hood’s extensive experience of working and teaching in the US education system, he will develop a series of guiding principles. These principles will inform criteria which can underpin our analysis of an Irish society that continues to seek to enhance its capacity to engage with and include individuals and communities who have chosen to live, work and learn among us in recent years.

Stafford Hood is the Sheila M. Miller Professor of Education, Associate Dean for Research and Research Education, and Founding Director of the newly established Centre for Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

All our welcome
