Students honoured for academic excellence by Dublin City University

One hundred and twenty three students were honoured for academic excellence by Dublin City University on Monday night, February 15th at the Helix, DCU.

One hundred and sixteen students who achieved in excess of 550 points in their Leaving Certificate were presented with a €1000 Academic Scholarship. There were four recipients of the McAleese Scholarships, which were initiated to facilitate greater access to third level education for students from Northern Ireland, where the majority of students take three A-Level subjects and as a result this leaves students at a disadvantage under the current points system.

In addition, there were two recipients of the Fiontar scholarships for academic excellence through Irish and one recipient acknowledged for the Overall Award in the Technology Section of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2015.

Forty eight scholarships were awarded to students in DCU Business School; forty two awards were presented to students in the Faculty of Science and Health; eleven awards were made to those in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing; eight scholarships were presented to students at the Institute of Education and seven scholarship were made to students enrolled in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The awards were presented by DCU President Professor Brian MacCraith along with representatives of each of the five faculties of DCU; including the newly established Institute of Education incorporating St. Patrick’s Drumcondra, the Mater Dei and the Church of Ireland College of Education.
