DCU academic to co-present new Building Ireland series on RTÉ

One of DCU’s academics, Dr Susan Hegarty, is the co-presenter of a new series on RTÉ that looks at how some of Ireland’s great building and engineering achievements came to be.

Susan is a lecturer in the DCU School of History and Geography on the St Patrick’s Campus.

She uses her expertise in the six-part documentary series, Building Ireland, to examine the impact of building and engineering on the development of our towns and cities.

In the first episode, Susan travels to Cork to visit Spike Island and learn about its past from historians and an archaeologist. Throughout the series, she will look at a range of subjects, from the Ardnacrusha hydroelectric power station to the medieval layout of Kilkenny city.

RTÉ describe Susan on their website as someone with “a fascination for the interaction of people with the landscape.” They explain that she “will explore where did they do it and why?”

Building Ireland is aired on RTÉ 1 on Friday evenings and is available to watch on RTÉ Player here.
