DCU amongst top performers globally in Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering and Technology

Dublin City University has featured in the world’s top higher education institutions in four key subject areas according to the latest global subject ranking figures.

The Politics and International Studies subject was ranked among the top 150 courses globally.

The 2017 QS World University Rankings by subject feature DCU in the top 250 of more than 4,438 universities worldwide in the areas of:

Communications and Media Studies

Business and Management Studies

Modern Languages

The QS rankings, which evaluate universities by subject areas and subjects, measure the quality of a university’s teaching and research using criteria such as academic reputation, employer reputation, the number of citations of research papers and also the H-index, a measure of the depth and breadth of a university’s research in specific subject areas.

Professor Brian MacCraith, President of Dublin City University said:

“These latest ranking build on our consistent performances and placement in the top 50 of the world’s youngest universities globally. It is a recognition of our commitment to providing high quality education across a broad range of disciplines.

It is particularly pleasing to see our Politics and International Studies courses and academics receiving the global recognition they deserve along with our Communications Studies programme which is also ranked number one in the country.

Our longstanding tradition in STEM subjects is reflected in a strong performance in the subject areas of Engineering and Technology with improved rankings in the area of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering while our Computer Science and Information Systems course is recognised among the top 300 worldwide.”
