GoGreen - GoCar
Ireland's only car-sharing initiative, GoCar, has set up a base on campus. The GoBase comprises one car initially, with plans to expand the service depending on demand.
The GoCar initiative works on a pay-per-trip basis which allows the user the freedom to access a vehicle when and as they need it.
Once staff and students have signed up with GoCar, the car can be picked up from the base just opposite the main DCU reception.
All students over the age of 21 can sign up for a GoCar Membership which will allow them to access vehicles on campus and at any other GoBase in the country. The scheme allow users to budget for the essential vehicle trips they wish to make while removing the stress and cost associated with NCTs, vehicle servicing and insurance premiums.
GoCar CEO Colm Brady commented, "DCU is one of the first campuses to house a GoBase but there is scope to roll this initiative out to a host of other third level Institutions across the country. With the ever increasing cost of car ownership, fuel and insurance, GoCar represents an important innovation for Irish transport and we are delighted with the support that DCU has shown for the initiative. GoCar is all about changing perceptions of car ownership and what better place to start than in a leading university which is educating the future leaders and decision makers of Ireland.
DCU President, Professor Brian MacCraith said, "As Ireland's University of Enterprise, we are delighted to support the GoCar venture which offers a sustainable travel alternative to staff and students, and adds to our suite of sustainability-related initiatives across campus".
