Prestigious international honour for DCU’s Brabazon

Prof. Dermot Brabazon of DCU’s School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Computing has been awarded the AMPT International Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievements in Materials Processing Research and Education.

The International Gold Medal was presented to Prof. Brabazon by Emeritus Prof Saleem Hashmi at last week’s 31st International Conference on Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies (AMPT), hosted at The Helix in DCU, which was attended by 150 international delegates.

There was further success at the AMPT conference with I-Form postdoctoral researchers Muhannad Obeidi and Rajani Vijayaraghavan winning best poster prize in their categories.

The conference was deemed a major success, with delegates praising the organisation, presentations, discussions, DCU laboratory visits, and DCU overall as a host location.

Prof Brabazon’s research is focused on the overlapping research areas of additive manufacturing, sustainable material processing, precision engineering, and composite materials and technologies. These overlapping activities are focused toward the development of advanced processing knowledge to enable improved production capability and quality for the benefit of companies and the broader society.
