DCU’s Moot Court Grand Final welcomes new Judge-In-Residence

A team of second-year BCL (Bachelor of Civil Law) students representing the Appellants in an employers' negligence-themed moot triumphed in this year’s Moot Court Grand Final, which took place at the Helix on Wednesday, March 20th.

DCU’s Moot Court Grand Final, sponsored by Matheson, involved eight second-year law students from DCU’s School of Law and Government going head-to-head to present oral submissions on a case involving employers' negligence.

Proceedings were judged by Mr Justice John MacMenamin of the Supreme Court who described the standard of mooting as "exceptional" along with Roisin Lacey SC and Matheson’s Pat Dineen.

Mr Justice John MacMenamin who was recently appointed as the new Judge-in-Residence at Dublin City University was officially welcomed by the President of DCU, Professor Brian MacCraith.

Cai O'Kane, Niamh Hayes, Conor Clarke and Sophie Wadding, representing the Appellants, were named as the 2019 winners and Conor Clarke was awarded awarded Best Speaker.

The Respondents were represented by Shauna Murray, Matthew Somers, Emily Kelly and Nkosilathi Ndebele.
