DCU Access Schools Choir prepares to take the stage at Dublin City University in aid of the St. Francis Hospice

DCU’s Access Schools Choir, which is made up of 60 students from nine North Dublin secondary schools, is set to take the stage at Dublin City University for two special concerts taking place at on Monday 1st April in aid of the St. Francis Hospice. These concerts have been produced, curated and directed by Dr Yvonne Crotty, musician and Professor at DCU's School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies, and form part of ANAM, DCU's arts and culture festival.

Celtic Journey of the Heart - a workshop and recital led by renowned teacher and spiritual director Deirdre Ní Chinnéide will see Deirdre perform music that was specially written for use in palliative care settings. This event will also feature contributions from the DCU’s Yvonne Crotty and Ciaran Coll. Pianist and composer, Diarmuid J Kennedy, will also perform a piano solo inspired by the beach in Portmarnock called ‘The Velvet Strand’. This event is free of charge and takes place in The Helix on 1st April at 10am.

Acabella and Friends is a night of music and entertainment led by the five-part harmony group who will perform ‘music for the soul’. Expect an eclectic mix of songs ranging from traditional Irish and contemporary folk, to gospel and jazz. This event takes place in The Helix, 1st  April at 8pm

The DCU Access Schools Choir is made up of 60 students from nine different local access schools: St. Vincent’s CBS, Glasnevin; St. Mary’s Holy Faith Glasnevin; St. Mary’s Holy Faith, Killester;  St. Aidan’s CBS, Dublin 9; Pobalscoil Rosmini, Drumcondra; Mercy College, Coolock; Grange Community College, Donaghmede;  Cabra Community College; Coláiste Dhúlaigh, Coolock.
