DCU postgraduate research student wins Researchfest

Debbie O'Reilly, a student based jointly in the School of Nursing & Human Sciences and the National Institute of Cellular Biology was this year's Researchfest winning speaker at Inspirefest 2019 which took place at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on the 16-17th May 2019.

Debbie presented her research on mechanisms involved in the development of castrate resistant prostate cancer in an accessible 3 minute pitch, highlighting the potential benefits of re-purposing pharmaceutical drugs which are currently used in the treatment of heart conditions, to treat advanced prostate cancer.

Debbie was one of eight finalists from all over Ireland.

As part of the prize Debbie was given the opportunity to present on the main stage at the Bord Gáis to the Inspirefest attendees.

Her project is funded by the Irish Research Council and DCU and her supervisors are Dr. Paul Buchanan and Dr. Patricia Johnson.
