DCU to represent HEI’s on National Social Enterprise Policy Implementation Group

Following a competitive process, Dublin City University has been chosen to represent Higher Education Institutions on the implementation group to deliver the ambitious National Social Enterprise Policy 2019 - 2022.

Ireland’s first ever National Social Enterprise Policy was published by the Minister for Rural and Community Development in July 2019. The Policy is focused on building awareness of social enterprise; growing and strengthening social enterprise; and achieving better policy alignment. It aims to create an enabling environment for social enterprise to grow and contribute to Ireland’s social and economic progress.

Whilst responsibility for delivery of the Policy Measures remains with the Department, partnership with a wide range of Social Enterprise stakeholders is key to the success and sustainability of the Policy. Representing HEI’s, DCU will be part of the group which will oversee and advise on the policy implementation.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Deiric O’Broin, Head of Social Enterprise at DCU, said:

“We are delighted to have been selected and the appointment reflects DCU's work in the area and the university's very significant engagement with social enterprises in the region.”
