Putting your best foot forward- running advice during Covid-19

As more and more people hit the footpaths in an effort to exercise during lockdown, Sarah Dillon will host this week’s Facebook Live Broadcast from the School of Health and Human Performance (Wed, May 6th, 1.00pm) with top tips and advice on how to avoid common injury risk factors when running.

With many gyms closed due to the coronavirus, people are now turning their attention to clocking up the miles in an effort to boost their physical and emotional well-being during this challenging time.

Wednesday’s session will have superb advice for both beginner and seasoned runners.

Sarah is a PhD candidate (funded by Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics) researching the risk factors related to running injuries.

She graduated from the University of Limerick in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy and has worked with multiple sports teams and the public in a private practice setting.

Running injuries are an area that she is passionate about researching, owing to her love of running, having completed two half marathons previously and experiencing injury setbacks.

Her main body of research, the DCU Running Injury Surveillance Centre (RISC) Study, uses a combination of clinical tests and technology to examine factors for injury.

To date, the DCU RISC Study has tested and monitored the injuries of over 300 runners over an 18-month period, providing the RISC team with a large and potentially very insightful data set.

Sarah has presented her research at conferences nationally and internationally.

Sarah works alongside Aoife Burke under the expert guidance of Dr Enda Whyte, Dr Siobhán O’Connor, Dr Shane Gore and Professor Kieran Moran.
