

DCU sees rises in Arts & Humanities, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences in the 2025 THE Subject Rankings
Dublin City University has climbed the rankings for Arts & Humanities, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject.
The university has maintained its ranking in the other five subject areas (Business & Economics, Clinical & Health, Computer Science, Engineering and Technology and Life Science) with Education and Psychology ranked for the first time.
Speaking about the rankings, Prof John Doyle, Vice-President for Research at Dublin City University said
“These latest rankings confirm, in particular, the strong growth in DCU’s research performance and in research impact in recent years. In both 2023 and 2024, research by DCU staff has, on average, been more highly cited than any other Irish university - reflecting our objective of seeking to maximise the impact of our research.”
About the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject
There are five core pillars of evaluation for the THE World University Rankings by Subject
- Teaching: evaluates teaching reputation, student-to-staff ratio, doctorate-to-bachelor ratio, doctorate-to-staff ratio and institutional income
- Research Environment: focuses on research reputation, income, and productivity
- Research Quality: includes citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and influence
- Industry: measures income from industry partnerships and patents
- International Outlook: accounts for international students, staff and co-authorship
They provide a comprehensive view of academic and research excellence.
