DCU GAA Round Up

Ryan Cup Final

DCU 2-11

St. Mary’s 1-9

@Athletic Grounds Armagh

DCU’s bid to win this year’s Sigerson was given a boost on Wednesday last in Armagh as DCU won the Ryan Cup for the first time in a number of years.

The star of the show in the end turned out to be Wicklow’s Conor McGraynor as he scored 2-2 on his way to helping his side win the Ryan Cup. Even at the break this match was well in balance, Jerome Johnson proving to be real danger for the Belfast College. Nevertheless DCU had the lead at the break 1-4, 0-6 with some key scores from Conor McHugh from the frees had DCU ahead .

St.Mary’s started well at the start of the second and led by three points when Jerome Johnston netted for the Ulster college which gave them a great platform at the start of the second half . Even though this was a big setback for DCU they never put the head down and responded well as DCU got their second of the match when McGraynor netted a rebounder from Enda Smith.

Fresher C All Ireland Final

DCU 5-11

NUIG 0-2

@Tubberclare

DCU claimed their first trophy of the year as the Fresher’s C team won the All Ireland Fresher League in comprehensive style on Wednesday in Tubberclare.  In what turned out to be great day for the DCU GAA club, there were wins for the Junior team in the Division 3 Semi-Final and this result was followed up with the senior team winning the Ryan Cup in an historic double for DCU.

Fresher B League Semi Final

DCU 2-19

IT Tralee 1-9

@Ballykelly

The Fresher B team booked a place in this year’s league final which won’t be played until after Christmas because of the postponement of the UCD-Mary Immaculate College quarter final due to bad weather.

DCU were comfortable winners in the end but it was Tralee who started the brighter of the two teams as they scored 1-2 without reply in the opening three minutes of the match.  However, the DCU Fresher B’s never looked back as they controlled the match after this in every sector.
