Garda vetting

What is garda vetting and why is it needed?

Garda Vetting is conducted in respect of any person who is carrying out work or activity, a necessary and regular part of which consists mainly of the person having access to, or contact with, children or vulnerable persons. The Garda vetting process checks if you have a criminal record, or any history that might pose a threat to vulnerable people or children.

Context: The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 provides a legislative basis for the mandatory vetting for persons who wish to undertake relevant work or activities with children or vulnerable adults.

Policy: DCU Garda Vetting Policy applies to staff of Dublin City University and does not extend to its campus companies.
