Enterprise Engagement – examples and opportunities 

  • CASTeL provides training and consultancy services for science and mathematics education.
  • The Microsystems Research Group has deep expertise with integrated, automated, microfluidic ‘lab-on-a-chip’ systems for biomedical point-of-care diagnostics and on-site applications in life sciences. We are keen to collaborate with companies and organisation interested in bringing these systems into clinical practice in order to improve health and health care. 
  • The Materials Growth and Characterisation Group has worked with several enterprises: 
  • SolarPrint: Professor Enda McGlynn worked with this firm through the FORME research cluster, which examined nanostructured metal oxide growth for dye-sensitised solar cells and nanopatterned metal layers for transparent conductive coatings. 
  • Glebe Scientific: Professor McGlynn worked with this company on high resolution electron microscopy studies of metal oxide nanostructures. 
  • Intel: Professor Greg Hughes works with the component research division in Oregon, investigating copper diffusion barrier layer formation on prototype dielectric materials.
