Award Title: Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships

PI: Dr. Paul van Kampen, Associate Professor in the  School of Physical Sciences and Co-Director of the DCU Centre for Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning (CASTeL)

Project Title: CO-Think: Computational Thinking and Astronomy Education in STEM

Coordinating institution: University of Girona, Spain

The main results of CO-Think will be three modules on computational thinking in STEM for pre-service teacher programmes and a set of tools, including teaching & learning sequences with Astronomy education which will foster the improvement of teacher education in this area and contribute to reducing the gender gap in STEM. The project will also produce microcredentials connected to these modules to increase the use and reach of the training tools. Insights gained during the project will have an impact in policy making on digital education. DCU will work on this 3-year project with universities in Belgium, Italy, and Spain. The total award value is €400K.


Award Title: Erasmus+ Teacher Academy

PI: Dr. Eileen Culloty, Assistant Professor in the School of Communications and Deputy Director of the DCU Institute for Media, Democracy, and Society

Project Title: TAMeLi for EU: Teacher Academy for Media Literacy in Europe: Instigating Teachers to Collaboratively Design for Meaningful Learning in a Media-driven World

Coordinating institution: KU Leuven, Belgium

The TAMeLi consortium brings together 15 partners from 8 European countries to create systemic change in teacher education in the field of Digital and Media Literacy (DML).  The objective is to support teacher education in DML by building a network of practice, supporting capacity building, and identifying effective strategies for instructional design.  The project will deliver on these objectives through  a Framework on Instructional Design for DML; Joint Modules on DML Teacher education; and a network of DML teacher educators and DML specialists. The total award value is €1.5M.
