The Equity and Wellbeing scheme funds research to improve the lives of people affected by breast cancer. This includes addressing inequalities in breast cancer outcomes, improving support, and managing the long-term effects of the disease.
The scope is broad and includes, but is not limited to:
- Public health research to improve access to information, screening, and support, especially for underserved groups.
- Research into the physical and psychosocial/emotional impacts of diagnosis and treatment.
- Using health data to understand gaps in needs and make the case for change.
- Developing and testing initiatives to address inequity, such as improving diversity in clinical trials.
The scheme supports two types of grants:
- Project Grants: The value may vary. Applicants must contact the funder before applying if the request is over £400,000.
- PhD Studentships: Applications must not exceed £171,500.
The expected duration for grants is three to four years, though other timelines can be justified.
Applications must be made using the online SmartSimple system. Please refer to this guidance document that details what needs to be included in your application to apply for a research grant using the system.

The European Partnership on One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (EUP OHAMR) is a €250,000,000 EU co-funded initiative that brings together 53 partner organisations from 30 countries to address the challenges of antimicrobial resistance through a coordinated, cross-sectoral approach that integrates human, animal, and environmental health.
It aims to accelerate research, improve data use, and translate innovation into policy and practice.
The partnership is launching its first joint transnational call on 18 November 2025 focussing on "Treatments and adherence to treatment protocols."
The call involves 36 funding organisations from 28 different countries with an estimated total call budget of over €28,000,000.
Applicants must address one of the following three topics defined under the call:
-
Topic 1: Identify and develop new combination treatments using existing or innovative antimicrobials or antimicrobial with adjunctive treatments to extend drug efficacy and combat resistance.
-
Topic 2: Develop tools and methods to improve adherence to treatment protocols.
-
Topic 3: Assess the impact of antimicrobials for veterinary and agricultural use on the risk of AMR transmission to humans and the environment to inform policies on the restriction of some antimicrobials for human use.
Research Ireland, the Health Research Board (HRB) and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) are participating as funding agencies to support Irish-based researchers to engage in the call.
Research Ireland is supporting applications under all topics. Upon launch of the call, Irish-based applicants should ensure to review each agency's requirements and eligibility criteria in order to select the most appropriate funder.
An information webinar for interested applicants will take place on Wednesday, 26 November 1:00pm-3:00pm. Registration for the webinar is available on the OHAMR JTC 2026 webinar applicants page.
