Research Newsletter - Issue 114: Pure Update

Your New Researcher Profile is Arriving in June

We are excited to announce a significant milestone in DCU’s research digital transformation. In September 2026, we will publicly launch the first phase of Pure, our new integrated Research Information System. Pure profiles will replace the current Research Engine profile system, providing a more intuitive, powerful, and globally recognised platform to showcase your research outputs, activities and impact.

To ensure a smooth transition, we are making Pure available to DCU researchers this June. You will receive an email notification as soon as your account is active. This "early access" period will allow you to:

  • Explore your new profile: See how your information is presented in the new system.
  • Review your data: Check the information already migrated or integrated from other systems.
  • Prepare for go-live: Ensure your profile is how you want it before the public launch in September.

Where is the data coming from?

We are working hard to ensure that your Pure profile is not a blank slate. To minimise manual entry, Pure is being populated through several key integrations and migrations.  Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • CoreHR: Populating your personnel information and affiliations within the DCU hierarchy.
  • Scopus: Automatically pulling in your Scopus-indexed publications.
  • Banner: Integrating your PGR supervision information.
  • Research Engine: A migration of your Biography and Research Interests content is underway.

We are also creating links with:

  • DORAS: To facilitate streamlined Open Access deposits on the institutional repository.
  • ORCID: To allow you to transfer information between your profiles.

Important Note: While many integrations will be active by June, others will continue to be refined and added over the following months. Your profile will continue to be enhanced automatically as we approach the September go-live.

Transitioning from Research Engine

Due to a range of reasons relating to data quality and incompatibilities, it is not possible to automatically transfer all data from Research Engine to Pure.  We want to make this move as easy and positive as possible, so to assist with the transition and ensure good data quality and optimised researcher profiles, we’ve put in place a data transfer plan that includes some of the following key elements:

  • Automated Migration: We will have already moved transferable data to your Pure profile when you access it in June.
  • Extended Overlap Window: The summer window, with access to both systems, will allow time to manually enter either new data or  data that you have in your Research Engine profile that you wish to include in your new Pure profile.
  • Support Team: If you would like support in transferring content from Research Engine to Pure, a dedicated team will be in place to assist you. Details on how to request this support will be provided before the June access date.

Note that Research Engine profiles will be turned off in September, once Pure profiles go live.

Training and Support

We understand that moving to a new system can bring questions. To support you, we will provide:

  • Summer Clinics & Workshops: Hands-on sessions to help you navigate the system and optimise your profile.
  • Training Materials: Step-by step user guides and FAQs.
  • Case Studies: Examples and case studies to demonstrate how to make the most of Pure to showcase your research outputs, activities and impact.
  • Data Transfer Support: Dedicated team to assist with the copying of content from Research Engine to Pure.
  • DCU Pure Webpage: The Pure webpage currently provides information and updates regarding Pure and the implementation project, along with videos and screenshots to give you an idea of what your profile will look like and how you can use and make the most of Pure.  Over the next few weeks and months we will continue to add to and update the webpage and content, including user guides and training schedules.

Next Steps for You

  1. Wait for the June notification to login to Pure for the first time.
  2. Check out the DCU Pure webpage and next month’s research newsletter for information regarding the summer workshops.

We are confident that Pure will greatly improve how we manage and celebrate research at DCU. We look forward to working with you over the coming months to bring your new profiles to life.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at researchsystems@dcu.ie.
