Rinn Artificial Intelligence - Research and Innovation in Data Science and AI

Congratulations to Prof. Noel O'Connor (School of Electronic Engineering), the co-investigator team at DCU, and the entire Rinn Research Ireland Centre on the scuccessful application to the Research Ireland Research Centres Programme 2023 call.   Rinn Artificial Intelligence - Research and Innovation in data Science and AI is one of seven new Rinn centres which has been awarded €121,752,497 (total direct and indirect costs) and will operate over the next eight years.

Rinn Artificial Intelligence is designed to serve as a national hub for research and innovation in data science and AI.  It will involve 288 co-applicants and PIs and will train 258 PhD students over the lifetime of the award.  The programme has two overarching goals: (i) to advance foundational cutting-edge research in Data Science and AI; (ii) to pursue open, international, inter- and transdisciplinary research aimed at studying, designing, and implementing strategies to address societal challenges.  Rinn AI brings together 15 other research organisations, including University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, University of Galway, University College Cork, Technological University Dublin, Maynooth University, University of Limerick, Tyndall National Institute, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Munster Technological University, Technological University of the Shannon, South East Technological University, Atlantic Technological University, and Dundalk Institute of Technology.  Rinn Artificial Intelligence is structured into 33 research themes within seven clusters:  Foundational Methods, Translational Methods, Data & Processing, People-Centred AI, Democratic Governance, Health, and Society & Culture.
