Research Title: Effect of Exercise on Vascular Health in Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a form of cardiovascular disease that manifests primarily in the lower limbs. Exercise improves symptoms and functional capacity in patients with PAD. The mechanism through which exercise achieves this is in part related to changes in vascular health. Brona's research compares the effects of high intensity versus low intensity exercise on vascular health in patients with PAD. Vascular health is assessed by measuring flow mediated dilation and circulating levels of endothelial progenitor cells and microparticles.
