Research Title: Effect of Exercise on Postprandial Lipemia and Endothelial Dysfunction in Peripheral Arterial Disease
Patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) exhibit several lipid abnormalities. Evidence to date suggests that an increase of postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TGRL) is an independent risk factor for heart disease. The transient impairment of endothelial function following a high-fat meal is well established, and studies have demonstrated that exercise can counteract the postprandial attenuation in brachial artery flow mediated dilation associated with the ingestion of a high-fat meal. Kevin's PhD work examines the effect of the acute and chronic exercise on postprandial lipemia, endothelial function and selected biomarkers in individuals with PAD.
