Research Title: Investigating contextualised professional development in primary physical education

The research study investigates the facilitation of a whole school (teachers n=27, pupils n=780) professional development programme (PDP) in Outdoor and Adventure Activities as part of the Primary Physical Education Curriculum. The PDP was researcher designed and facilitated, informed by literature on professional development, knowledge and teacher change. The study uses mixed methods. Data were collected prior, during and post PDP implementation. Findings showed that teachers became more confident and competent in their teaching. Provision of resources and individualised support were key to the success of the PDP, and as a result teachers began to collaborate in their planning and teaching across all subject areas.
