Research summary:

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disorder characterized by the early-onset (<40 years) of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The prevalence of AATD in Ireland is among the highest in the world. This series of studies, in collaboration with the Alpha One Foundation, will  seek to characterise the quality of life and physical fitness of AATD patients and to determine the physiological responses of AATD patients to acute and chronic exercise.
