CSPPA Plus is a 5-year follow-up study of the Children’s Sport Participation and Physical Activity (CSPPA) study that collected data on Irish 10-18 year old youth. The purpose of the study was to model the key determinants of physical activity and to assess physical activity in terms of uptake, maintenance and drop out.
Three key stages of transition in the lives of youth that are being examined are:
- Primary to post-primary education (pre-to-early adolescence)
- Junior Cycle to Senior Cycle in post-primary school (early-to-late adolescence)
- Senior Cycle to school leaver (mid adolescence to young adulthood).
The research findings will undoubtedly provide an evidence base for the development of strategies to enhance physical activity levels and promote activity maintenance in youth.
Acknowledgements: The original CSPPA study (2010) was funded by the Irish Sports Council.
