Edition week: 20-Apr-09

Exam Countdown - Prepare to Succeed

Semester 2 Exam timetable published: 20th April.

PLAN YOUR TIME
1. Don't wait until the last minute to organise your study schedule. Write down what you have to do, for example, do you have to complete two assignments or sit exams. What activities are associated with these tasks?

2. Prioritise what needs to be studied first and identify which modules have continuous assessment as part of them and the remaining allocation of marks for semester 1 exams.

3. Prepare a weekly and daily schedule – this is like a “to-do list” to help you achieve your tasks.

4. Don’t over schedule; keep some time free for unexpected jobs or emergencies!

5. Evaluate your schedule – is it working for you?

WHERE & WHEN DO YOU STUDY?
a. Where is your best study environment, for example, is it the Library and/or the bedroom?

b. On your study desk, only have the books and material for the subject you are studying.

c. Have a think about when is your “peak performance period”. This is the time where you have high energy, so schedule study, in particular, demanding tasks during this time. For example, are you a morning person or an evening person?

d. Try to eliminate distractions, for example, turn off your mobile phone.

e. If you have gaps between lectures, pretend you have a fake class and go to the
Library to study.

HEALTHY BODY, HEALTHY MIND
Take regular breaks.
Eat healthy.
Reward yourself, for example, do something nice after studying.

Part 2 - Next week we review: Exams, Lessons learnt, Prizes.

All the best,
Fionnuala & DCU Careers Team
