Angela Cocoman is a Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Human Sciences in Dublin City University (since 2005). Angela's doctoral study addressed the physical health and well being of people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. This collaborative action research involved drafting, utilizing and evaluating a metabolic monitoring tool, to monitor patients for, to assist in determining the presence of metabolic syndrome. The research study then developed, implemented and evaluated a wellness model of care that was used to improve the physical health and well-being of patients. Angela has a broad portfolio of professional interests namely; advancing mental health practice on evidenced-based injection techniques; physical health assessment of people with schizophrenia; service developments in relation to nurse-led services and in the provision of post-registration education. In addition to her research interests, she also currently leads and teaches on modules in caring and communication skills and psycho-social interventions and on the critical appraisal/research skills including academic writing.
