My career in nursing commenced as a student nurse with the Daughters of Charity Dublin Services where I trained as a Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID) and following that, in Jervis Street Hospital as a Registered General nurse (RGN). I worked in residential services with St Michaels House Dublin for a number of years and then to the Daughters of Charity services where took up a post in the School of Nursing as a nurse teacher. I completed a Bachelor of Nursing Studies in 1996 from UCD and the following year a Masters in Adult and Community Education from NUI Maynooth. I was elected to An Bord Altranais representing Intellectual Disability Nursing Education in 2002 and again in 2008. I have served on the Education and Training, Fitness to Practice and Advanced Practice committees. I transferred to DCU School of Nursing in 2002 and undertaking a Doctorate in Education from the School of Education DCU where my particular area of interest is in academic assessment in nursing education. In 2008 I was appointed an AFI fellow with a brief to support staff members in the School of Nursing in the move towards the development of a new Academic Framework for Innovation. I have recently taken an interest in the application of circuitry to facilitate large group clinical assessment and with colleagues have presented at an in -house teaching seminar related to this topic.
