Find out what to expect, ways to prepare, and how to make the most of your clinical nursing placements with current students.
1. How do I access InPlace?
- To access InPlace, please login via placement.sis.dcu.ie by selecting the "Staff and Students" option and entering your DCU email address and password.
- Next, open the authenticator app on your mobile phone.
- When prompted, enter the number shown on your phone authenticator app. You will see the welcome screen.
2. I have uploaded my prerequisite documents to InPlace, however the system says I still have documents outstanding. How can I fix this?
- After uploading your documents, please click on '"Save" to ensure they are recorded in InPlace.
3. How long does document verification take?
- Documents are reviewed by your Practice Module Coordinator. There is no fixed verification timeframe, so you should upload each certificate as soon as you receive it and well in advance of your placement. Remember to click "Save" after uploading; otherwise, the document will not be submitted for verification. Its status will change to Verified once it has been approved.
4. Why has my document been rejected?
- A document may be rejected if it is incorrect, incomplete, unclear, out of date or does not meet the relevant placement requirement. Open the action item on your InPlace To-Do list and scroll to the rejected document. Delete it, upload the correct or amended version and click "Save" to resubmit it for review. Contact your Practice Module Coordinator if you are unsure what needs to be corrected.
5. When will I receive my placement allocation?
- Your next placement will appear under Notifications on your InPlace homepage. Upcoming placements can also be viewed under Confirmed. If your placement begins within the next two weeks and the ward or location is not displayed, contact allocations@dcu.ie. Check InPlace regularly, as any late changes will also appear under Notifications.
6. Can I request a different placement?
-
Placement allocations are determined by programme requirements, the learning experiences you need and the capacity of partner services. For this reason, requests for a different placement cannot normally be accommodated. Once you have been assigned a parent or base service in first year, it is not possible to change that service. If exceptional circumstances affect your ability to attend an allocated placement, contact your Practice Module Coordinator and allocations@dcu.ie as early as possible. Any alternative arrangement is subject to approval and placement availability.
1. What should I do if I cannot attend my placement?
- Notify the Clinical Nurse Manager or person in charge of the placement area, your Clinical Placement Coordinator and your Student Allocations Liaison Officer as soon as possible. Record the absence and the correct reason on your InPlace attendance record, adding any required supporting document, such as a medical certificate.
- When you return, inform your preceptor or the person in charge so that your attendance record can be updated. All missed practice hours must be made up. Any changes to your roster or arrangements to make up outstanding hours must be agreed with your SALO and/or CPC.
2. Where can I find the National Competency Assessment Document (NCAD)?
- NCAD templates are now available on Loop. To access, please click here and download the relevant file. You must use the correct NCAD template and then submit the scanned copy to My Placement.
1. My placement hours are appearing incorrect in InPlace. Why is this?
- Your placement hours from last year may not have been updated yet in InPlace by the Allocations team.
Please contact the correct team with your full name, student number, programme, year of study, and brief description of your query. We will then assist you as quickly as possible.
