Academic biography
Dr Sarah-Jane Byrne, is an Assistant Professor in General Nursing in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at Dublin City University. She is a RGN, RNP and holds a BSc and MSc in Nursing. She successfully defended her PhD in April 2026 from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Dr Byrnes professional background spans general nursing, neurology nursing, stroke specialist practice, stroke secondary prevention, and patient-centred communication. She has experience as a Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialist within a Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team. Her teaching and research interests include chronic disease management, community and population health, stroke secondary prevention, evidence synthesis.
Dr Byrnes published research in peer reviewed journals includes a scoping review, national surveys of stroke specialist nurses and studies exploring patients’ experiences of stroke secondary prevention.
