I completed several post registration and Higher Diploma programmes in critical care nursing over 15 years and worked as a Clinical Nurse Manager from 1996-1999. I completed my MSc in Education  in 2002. My primary research interest is chronic illness in young adults, emerging adulthood, communicating with children and families and healthcare professionals and I completed my thesis (MSc) on Challenges facing newly qualified children's nurses communicating with parents of hospitalised children. I am a member of a research group exploring hospital acquired infection from a wider organisational stance. We completed a study in 2008 which was published in the Journal Of Infectious Disease in January 2010.
