I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Human Science, Dublin City University, Ireland. I previously worked as a critical care nurse in the area of childhood illness for over 15 years in Ireland, the UK and the US. I completed several post registration and Higher Diploma programmes in critical care nursing over 15 years and worked as a Clinical Nurse Manager from 1996-1999. I completed my MSc in Education in 2002. My primary research interest is chronic illness in young adults, emerging adulthood, communicating with children and families and healthcare professionals and I completed my thesis (MSc) on Challenges facing newly qualified children's nurses communicating with parents of hospitalised children. I am a member of a research group exploring hospital acquired infection from a wider organisational stance. We completed a study in 2008 which was published in the Journal Of Infectious Disease in January 2010. I completed my doctoral study in DCU in 2014 exploring emerging adults experience of living with childhood onset chronic illness. I have presented findings at conferences nationally (Mater Dei. April 2013; Temple St Childrens University Hospital, Dublin) and Internationally (Society for the Study of Emerging Adult Conference, Chicago US 2013 and Miami 2015).
