Brian Ruane RIP

We are saddened to announce the death of our esteemed colleague, Brian Ruane, Assistant Professor in Education in the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies, who passed away on January 7th. Brian had a long career in education, as a primary teacher, a development and human rights educator and a teacher educator, specialising in the teaching of history and in human rights and global citizenship education. He joined the staff of St Patrick's College in 2007, having worked for several years with Amnesty International Ireland as education manager. During his time with Amnesty, he co-founded the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education with colleagues from St Patrick's College. Brian was an inspired and committed teacher educator dedicated to the values of global justice, equality, solidarity and human rights. His work in relation to children's rights and children's rights education was internationally known and acclaimed. Brian will be deeply missed by his friends and colleagues in DCU Institute of Education and across the education and NGO sectors. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Brian's family and to his wide circle of friends. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.
