Biographical Details

Susan is a Lecturer in Geography Education at the DCU Institute of Education
Susan has coordinated Geography Education at DCU Institute of Education since 2000. She is an active member of a number of DCU centres, including the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship, Disadvantage Centre and Water Institute.

She is JV President of the Geographical Association (GA).  Susan coordinates the Geography Champions network and was awarded the GA's Award for Excellence in 2016. She is a member of the GA's Early Years and Primary Committee, Education Group and Governing Body. 

Susan is currently External Examiner at the Universities of Roehampton (PGCE, Roehampton) and Chichester (BA Outdoor Learning, Colaiste Dhulaigh). Susan's research interests span education in schools, teacher education and communities, specifically learning in geography, environmental education.

Current projects include the Science Foundation Ireland Irish Sign Language (ISL) Glossary for Geography & Environmental Science. She is currently working on a book for teachers, entitled Learning Secondary Geography. Beyond DCU Susan is a member of the Geography Education Research Collective (GERECO), and is on the Editorial Board of the International Research in Geographical and Environmental Education (IRGEE).  Susan welcomes contact from organisations and individuals interested in all areas outlined above.
