Focus this week
Skills Development
Building a Positive DCU Community
At DCU, we take pride in being part of a comunity that is welcoming, safe and respectful to all. Students play a big role in keeping it that way! If you haven't already, check out our resources on healthy relationships within DEVELOP:
-
Discover Healthy Relationships: identify and address unhealthy behaviours in your relationships and interactions.
-
TiLT Role Play: recognise forms of bias (gender, racial, ethnic) and reflect on your role in making the campus more inclusive.
-
Active* Consent: understand consent and what supports are available if you or a peer have had a negative sexual experience.
Career Development
Building Your Experience
As a DCU student, you have lots of opportunities to gain new skills and build your experience throughout your degree.
-
Work and Volunteering: Part-time jobs, vacation work and volunteering are great additions to your CV.
-
Summer Internships, INTRA & Placements: Your chance to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and see it come to life in the workplace. It also helps you discover what you’re passionate about and gain confidence to decide what your future might look like.
-
Network: Attend our Employer Events & Job Fairs to build connections before you graduate.
-
Learn: Attend a Skills Session or an Alumni Panel event to build your skills and hear real world advice.
👉 Action for this week: Head over to the Events section on MyCareer and book a session that interests you.
Health and Wellbeing
Sleep!
After the festive season, it can be difficult to get back into a routine. Often, our sleep patterns are affected most. To improve sleep, stick to a consistent sleep schedule, create a cool, dark, quiet bedroom, and develop a relaxing bedtime routine that avoids screens, caffeine, heavy meals, and alcohol before bed, while incorporating daytime exercise. If you can't sleep, get out of bed and do something calming until sleepy, then return.
For more tips on sleep check out our sleep section on the DCU Healthy website.
