Recommended this week: Reading and Note Taking Strategies
If your faculty has a Reading Week, you may be looking at some extra time this week to catch up on your reading and work on your assignments. Did you know that there are proven strategies that you can use to read more effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate level?
Our resource on Note Taking and Effective Reading has some great suggestions, including SQ4R, an active reading strategy to help you make the most of the time and effort you put into reading.
Top tip: Read with a purpose
Reading at university level may serve a variety of purposes: to expand on the material covered in class, to prepare in advance for a lecture or tutorial, to complete an assignment, or to learn new subject material for an exam.
Depending on your purpose, or why you are reading, you can decide what to read, and how to read it, by asking yourself these questions:
-
What do you need the information for?
-
What do you already know?
-
What new information do you need?
-
What information do you not need?

Health & Wellbeing
As we reach mid semester, it’s a great time to pause, reflect, and take a breath. It’s been a busy semester so far, so take time to check in with yourself.
We can be going at such a fast pace that we don’t realise that we may not be looking after our mental wellbeing and physical health.
Did you know there are lots of resources available on the SS&D online hub, DEVELOP? There, you can find podcasts, short courses, and a bank of resources on mindfulness, psychological wellbeing skills, and physical wellbeing.
Take a moment to browse our wellbeing content below and see what resources can support you this week!
