Message from Claire
Dear Students,
Hard to believe we are already in Week 4 of Semester 1!! Hopefully you are all now in a rhythm and are beginning to get a feeling for your programme this year. Remember to reach out for advice or help sooner rather than later if anything is niggling at you. Email student.support@dcu.ie and arrange to meet a Student Advisor if you have any questions!
Have a good week!
Claire,
Dr. Claire Bohan, Dean of Students

Skills Development
Writing Toolkit on DEVELOP
Have you checked out the Academic Learning and Writing resources on DEVELOP?
The Writing Toolkit contains bespoke resources developed by the Writing Centre team to help you build your skills and confidence when it comes to academic writing. They cover all aspects of writing at university, including:
-
The essentials of academic writing
-
Different types of assignments and how to tackle them
-
Planning and structuring
-
Language and phrasing
-
Critical thinking and writing
You can log into DEVELOP on Loop with your DCU credentials
The Writing Centre is now open
The Writing Centre aims to help all students become confident and competent writers at third level and beyond. Academic Writing Coaches work with students one on one to strengthen their abilities as writers, and encourage them to become editors of their own work.
Health & Wellbeing
Walktober is here!
Walktober is a fun team Step Challenge which takes place during October each year. The Step Challenge is open to all DCU staff and students, with prizes on offer for participants throughout the course of the challenge.
This Smarter Travel step challenge is a great way to connect with friends and colleagues and to make new friends. There are also lots of prizes to be won.
You can sign up for Walktober here on the Active Travel Logger!
To participate, all you need is a team of 3-6 friends/colleagues from within DCU (staff or students), select a team captain and team name, and all sign up to the Active Travel Logger website. There are instructions there if you are having any difficulties. If you have signed up from previous challenges, then you can use the same login details.
You do NOT have to walk together in your team, but you can! All steps can be counted using phone/pedometer/smart watch etc. from Monday to Sunday! Wheelchair users can use an odometer - see Walktober website for more info including participant guide.
