Message from Claire

Dear Students,

Hopefully you all enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend and got some rest! At this point, you should have a good work plan in place, breaking up the assignments which are undoubtedly coming at you at this time of the year. Take a moment each week to make sure you are on top of things and work through the various deadlines!!

Have a good week!

Claire,

Focus this week

Skills Development

This week: Cybersecurity Phase 3

As a student, you are spending a lot of or time in digital environments, and it is crucial to be aware of the ongoing nature of cybersecurity risks. Continued learning and vigilance are key.

This micro-course will teach you all about your online safety: how to recognise suspicious activities, and when and how to report security incidents. All of it is applicable to your personal and professional life beyond DCU.

Log into Loop to access Cybersecurity Phase 3, part of the Discover Series.

Life Skills resources on DEVELOP

Our four-week course Pathways to Success begins this week, and there are places still available. It aims to increase wellbeing, resilience, motivation, self-esteem, self-confidence, goal-setting skills, and self-awareness.

Can't make it to the live sessions? Check out some of the Life Skills resources on DEVELOP

This week, we recommend Self Belief, a 15-minute podcast that explores what we mean by self belief, how self belief is connected to our thoughts and habits, and how we can build confidence through positive self talk.

Health & Wellbeing

Movember
For the month of November, we will be celebrating and raising awareness for Movember, a global movement held each November to raise funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

Movember funds research and programs for men's health projects worldwide, raises awareness through the act of growing a moustache, having conversations, and encourages men to be proactive about their health.

How to get involved!

  • Grow a moustache: Participants known as "Mo Bros" and "Mo Sisters" can sign up and grow a moustache for the month.

  • Walk or run: Complete a "Move" challenge, which involves walking or running throughout November to represent the number of men lost to suicide each hour.

  • Host an event: Organise a "Mo-ment" by gathering friends or family.

  • Create your own challenge: Come up with a personal challenge with "Mo Your Own Way".

  • Donate: Support friends or family members by donating to their fundraising pages.

Get involved with DCU Movember or visit Movember for more information.
