Actions and Initiatives 2026/2027
Pilot DCU Electronics Repair Café
Semester I 2026/2027
Why: DCU has Sustainability Development as a key driver, right to repair legislation, cost of living crisis, circular economy, resource conservation… there are lots of very good reasons.
What can be repairs (no guarantees or warranties!): small applicates such as kettles, toasters, personal laptops, head phones, hair dryers, hair straighteners, electronic games, game consoles…
How:
Step 1: Email (address to be confirmed) with a short description of the item and when & how it broke along with a photo.
Step 2: Items will be reviewed by the engineers (Nigel and Thomas) and if they believe they can fix the item you will get an email and location on campus to drop off the item – this is typically be the Students Unions Helpdesk.
Step 3: Repairs will be undertaken by the repair team. Please note there are absolutely no guarantees or warranties, if the item is reasonably fixable then every effort will be made but miracles are not possible. Any item that have personal or important data on them should be back-up and removed where possible.
Step 4: You will get an email within 2 weeks to advise if your item has been fixed or if it was unable to be fixed.
Step 5: ALL items need to be collected from the designate drop-off point.

Sustainable Energy Community – Home Energy Kit
The DCU Sustainable Energy Community supported by SEAI is here to support you to make energy efficiency improvements to your home. An initial step that all members of the DCU community can take is to borrow a Home Energy Kit to help you assess how you use energy and where you might be wasting it through poor ventilation or certain appliances. During this semester Sustainability DCU will be providing the DCU Libraries with these home energy kits for you to borrow.
