DCU continues to work towards the removal of single use materials in its canteen and Restaurant. In 2018/2019 the student body voted to work with the University to remove all single use canteen materials, with the result being that every coffee dock and restaurant area had re-usable materials available.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this was negatively impacted with reversions to single-use items for health and safety reasons. Post-pandemic and with the introduction of the Climate Action Mandate DCU is on the way to re-introducing sustainability through piloting several models such as Keep Cups, Dublin City Cup sharing and Vytal re-usables.
