Project Title: CARE (Connecting teAching Rooms tEchnology)
Team Member(s): Patrick Doyle, Justin Dawson, Michelle Gibbons, Karyn Brady, Ciara White, Anne Kirwan, Anna Kimmins, Adele Keough, Folaranmi Yetunde Ajibola
Faculty/Audience/: Faculty of Science and Health/School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health/1st Year/NUR1014/185 students
Aims/Objectives: The primary goal of this project is to leverage technology to enable live streaming of demonstrations hosted at the Clinical Education Centre (CEC). This dynamic and inclusive educational experience will contribute to the themes underpinned by SATLE. The project aims to transform the CEC by promoting active engagement with digital learning and aligning with the DCU SATLE theme of Digital Transformation.
The initiative will focus on seamless live streaming, eliminating interruptions and buffering issues. It will also prioritise accessibility, outreach, and engagement with a wider audience. Previous live streaming methods, such as Zoom, have faced challenges with picture quality and audio delays between locations.
Live clinical demonstrations provide a direct link between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, enhancing the practical skills facilitated by the CEC on over 20 modules, both undergraduate and postgraduate. This technology can also facilitate large group simulation observation and debriefing.
The original request limited the connection between two rooms and the team desired to implement a broader, flexible solution. The solution was to add to an already purchased, mobile MEDICAL-GRADE COMPUTER ROLL CART (with a 10X Point Tilt Zoom (PTZ) Camera and a Wolfvision Cynap Core Pro)
We purchased 2 mics, 2 receivers and a portable touch monitor. On October 2024 these devices were connected to the Wolfvision collaboration suite in the Clinical Education Centre. This hardware and software teaching solution allowed the team to communicate between HG20 and H116 in the CEC .

Feedback from the live demonstration prompted the technical officers to purchase the Obsbot Tail Air - an AI assisted Point Tilt and Zoom Camera. This camera will facilitate tracking of speakers in HG20 when the class is repeated in October 2025.
The NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) is implementing a new curriculum for nurse registration programs starting in the autumn of 2027. This curriculum will be in place for students entering third-level education in September 2027. The members of this SATLE fund project will use their experience to inform the curriculum working group in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health. We will continue to encourage the implementation of Universal Design for Learning principles in this process and will emphasise that the correct use of technology can be used to provide multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement.
